Hanger 11 Collection - North Weald, Essex, 13th February
2010
Review - It is Peter Teichman's determination that the aircraft of the
North Weald based Hangar 11 Collection are as historically accurate as
possible and Supermarine Spitfire PR.XI PL965 G-MKXI has been undergoing a
rebirth with this aim in mind over the past months. The aircraft has been
stripped down to bare metal prior to a repaint in Royal Air Force 16
Squadron markings. All key components and ancillaries, including fuel tanks
and the oil tank, are also being overhauled and repainted, with the
opportunity being taken to replace any more modern flexible pipework in the
hydraulic system with original Tungam rigid format. The major part of the
project, the reinstallation of the aircrafts original service engine, is
also nearing fruition with first engine runs expected in the next few weeks.
Speaking of the project Peter said "this wonderful old lady, who served her
country so well in 45 missions over war torn Europe in 1944/1945 will be
back to her original best and she deserves it!"
