Hanger 11 Collection - North Weald, Essex, 20th December
2008
Review - With thanks to Peter Teichmann, aviationphoto.co.uk visited the
Hanger 11 Collection at North Weald, Essex. The Collection's P-51
Mustang G-SIJJ 'Jumpin Jacques' suffered a minor problem in September 2008
with a worn valve seat found in the aircraft's Rolls Royce Merlin engine.
The decision was taken to replace the engine with a spare that had been
newly overhauled by Maurice Hammond's Eyetech Engineering. With the engine,
engine bearer, oil tank and associated pipe work stripped out the
opportunity was also taken to fully refurbish the engine compartment from
the firewall forward. At the same time the propeller has been sent out to
CFS Aeroproducts Ltd of Coventry and the magnetos to Rapide Magnetos of
Kemble, both for overhaul. The work began on August 31, 2008 and is now
almost complete, the Mustang due back in the air in February, well in time
for the 2009 airshow season.
