Duxford Spring Airshow - Duxford, Cambridgeshire, 22nd
May 2011
Review - The theme of the Duxford Spring Airshow was woman in aviation
although unfortunately on the day, a blustery wind kept many of the lighter
acts on the ground. Last minute substitutions in the flying programme
meant that a great show was still put on with The Fighter Collection's Hawk
75A and P-40B Warhawk making welcome appearances after absences due to the
paperwork issues that have recently hampered the Collection's operations.
The Royal Navy Historic Flight's newly restored Hawker Sea Fury T.20 made
its public debut while Dan Griffith's display in the Meteor NF11 was the
highlight of the day for me. Another debut came in the shape of Golden
Apple's F-86A Sabre in NATO Tiger Stripes fresh from its appearance, in
Cliff Spink's hands, at the NATO Tiger Meet at Cambrai. Women still
played a leading role in the show with Anna Walker and Carolyn Grace running
in formation along the Duxford display line in Seafire XVII G-KASX and
Spitfire IX G-LFIX respectively before splitting into solo routines.
Closing the show was Flt Lt Juliette Fleming in RAF Hawk T.1 XX245.
